Not sure I ever answered this...Cornelius is called Oregon's Family Town, which does tell you something about its composition. It is a small town of about 12,000 of which 2/3s are Hispanic and mostly those are migrant workers. They are not itinerant migrant workers, however; rather, they live in stable, if modest, homes and work for the many farms and ag businesses around here. The town is tiny, just a crossroads and lies in between Hillsboro and Forest Grove. It is about 30 miles west of Portland. Commuting into Portland ranges from 30 minutes to over an hour depending upon time of day and where in Portland one is heading. Outside of the Cornelius city limits, many homes are on 40 acre tracts of farmland - like the vineyard and pastures of my home. House prices are reasonably low. I wouldn't move here without visiting and really spending some time exploring the area to see if this is what you want!

Please forgive this intrusion. I have been googling for people who are blogging from the Cornelius Oregon area. I and my family are thinking of moving to Portland when my contract in the south ends in 2010.
If you don’t mind me asking what is Cornelius like? I have two kids is is reasonably safe? We have seen low house prices and the location looks right, but would like to know more about it.

Once again sorry for interjecting. Any info would be much appreciated!

Holly -

I stumbled upon your blog accidentally, but have been enjoying it greatly. I know the Fern Hill Community Club and have attended some events, though not this year. My grandparents (Bernt and Rosa Anderson) moved to a hillside farm in that area during the Depression, living in a tent until they could get a tar-paper shanty built. That farm is still in our family . . . . . it is part of who I am. I live in Hillsboro, but I am home when I am at the farm.

Interestingly, though, we have a daughter who has lived in Manhattan and currently lives in Brooklyn. We have visited her twice and, to our complete surprise, have fallen in love with New York City!!! So, you see, though I very rarely take time to comment even on my dearest friends blog, I just had to say 'Welcome to the most beautiful and magical place on this earth!'

I love baseball season. Since I drive so much, I really enjoy listening to cubs games in the afternoon. I also enjoy the fact that Lauren already knows the words to "Take me out the ball game" I don't know what I do the rest of the year in car. I will even listen to a Brewers or White Sox game if I have to.

It will inevitably get warm. The grapes will come. and people will use them to get drunk. Which of course is the best part.

I am pleased to tell you that I was voted "One of a Kind Style" at work, all for my funkalicious spin on corporate attire. For this award, I'd like to thank the Salvation Army, TJ Maxx, and my neighbor Amy who is the same size but rarely wears anything twice.

I must have gotten some of this from you, don't you think?

PS -- it's Blair Customer of the Year

Note: This comment originally came from "Nancy in California" but something broke so we had to re-post it.

Hi Holly,

I hate the Boxwood Beetle to do you how you can kill them?? I can't even work in my garden without being assaulted. I am so upset by this.

Thanks, Nancy

PS I grew up on a farm and now live in city really. I would trade you!!
